Van Basten springs a surprise

Netherlands manager Marco van Basten has left Dirk Kuyt and Rafael Van der Vaart out of his team to face Serbia and Montenegro.

Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is preferred to Kuyt on the right of a front three, while Ajax midfielder Wesley Sneijder is preferred to Van der Vaart, who has been struggling with injury.

Serbia and Montenegro are without suspended centre back Nemanja Vidic.
