Moyes and AJ reveal their delight at Goodison unveiling

Everton boss David Moyes believes record signing Andrew Johnson fulfils 'all the criteria' the club were looking for.

The Merseyside club this afternoon unveiled striker Johnson after he completed his £8.6million signing from Crystal Palace.

Everton beat off competition from Bolton and Wigan to sign the 25-year-old, who is on England's standby list for the World Cup.

Moyes told Sky Sports News: 'It is a big signing for us and shows the ambition of the club.

'When I heard how much he wanted to play for Everton I pushed the board more to get him to come.

'His goals are the big thing. In the last few years his record has been almost one in two games, fantastic.

'He has got pace and ability to hurt people and is dangerous going behind. He is a terrific worker and fitted all the criteria in a player to come to Everton.'

Johnson believes he has joined a 'massive' club and feels the move back to the Premiership after a year in the Championship will help his career.

Johnson said: 'I am absolutely delighted to join Everton, one of the biggest clubs in British football.

'David Moyes had a massive part in my decision. We had a good chat and he told me the way the club is going. He impressed me a lot.

'Obviously it is going to help my England chances to get back in the Premiership and score goals week in, week out.

'It's a massive club and I can't wait to get the jersey on and playing for a team that was playing in the Champions League last season. I don't see why we can't get that again.'

Moyes added: 'What we needed was competition. We didn't score enough goals last season, that was obvious. We did not have competition last year for places, but hopefully we have now.

'The board have been terrific in backing me. I have always said if there was any money the board would always give it and they have.

'There's a terrific atmosphere here, with big crowds, for Andy to play in front of.

'We are ambitious, we always try to make progress. Bringing players in not just for a year or so but for a long time is our aim.'

Moyes also hinted there could be more signings on the way soon.

'There could be another player in three or four days time,' he said.

Johnson added: 'I am hungry to get back into the England team. I hope to start scoring week in, week out and that would help me achieve that ambition.

'I can't wait to get started in pre-season training and show the fans what I can do.'
