Rooney to travel with England squad to Germany

Wayne Rooney will travel to Germany on Monday with England's World Cup squad.

The Football Association confirmed today their injured striker, scheduled to have a scan on his broken foot on Wednesday June 7, will join his team-mates when they head to Baden-Baden.

Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson wants to analyse Rooney's fitness and recovery rates ahead of the crucial scan.

An FA statement said: 'England head coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed today Wayne Rooney will fly out to Germany with the rest of the England squad on Monday.

'Wayne will then return to England on Wednesday for a scan on his foot in Manchester.

'Wayne will be accompanied by the England team doctor Leif Sward who will then analyse the scan with Manchester United.'

Eriksson has until Friday June 9 to decide whether or not Rooney will be part of the England squad for the World Cup finals.

His decision is complicated by fitness doubts surrounding his other key striker Michael Owen, who is just back from a broken foot and needed a precautionary scan yesterday on a tight thigh muscle.

England play Hungary in a friendly at Old Trafford tonight, their penultimate warm-up game before the World Cup finals.
