Kelly signs new deal as Tottenham release three
Tottenham defender Stephen Kelly has signed a new one-year contract - but the club have confirmed that Mido will now return to Roma after his 18-month loan spell.
Kelly, who had been linked with a move to Birmingham, would have been out of contract this summer but the Republic of Ireland international has agreed to stay at White Hart Lane for another 12 months.
Kelly made his senior international debut in a 1-0 defeat by Chile on Wednesday, and has made 44 first-team appearances for Tottenham, even though he was largely a deputy for Canadian star Paul Stalteri last season.
The 22-year-old is unlikely to have Mido as a team-mate next season, however, after Tottenham admitted talks to sign the Egyptian striker permanently from Roma had broken down.
Mido made 27 starts and scored 14 goals for Tottenham. He missed the last four games of last season and Tottenham agreed a deal to sign £10.9million Bulgarian Dimitar Berbatov from Bayer Leverkusen as a replacement.
Tottenham have also decided to release Serbia and Montenegro centre-back Goran Bunjevcevic, who was signed by former manager Glenn Hoddle in May 2001, while veteran Morocco defender Noureddine Naybet also departs.
Naybet was recruited two years ago from Deportivo La Coruna.
