Maldini seemingly prepared for Sheva exit

AC Milan captain Paolo Maldini insists there will be no hard feelings if Andriy Shevchenko opts to leave the Serie A giants.

The prolific Ukrainian striker has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea and is currently considering his future, with the Rossoneri offering him a contract extension to 2011.

Maldini classes Shevchenko as the best striker in the world, but the former Italy international believes Milan should let him go if his heart is set on a new challenge.

'I can only say that I prefer him (Shevchenko) to Thierry Henry, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o, for me he is the best.' Maldini told Gazzetta dello Sport.

He added: 'I will respect his decision, Milan has never held anyone who wanted to go.

'He has to decide. He certainly shouldn't stay against his will. He must do what he feels is right.'
