Venables refuses to rule out a return to Boro

Terry Venables has refused to rule out a return to football management with Middlesbrough.

The former England boss, who saved Boro from relegation from the Premiership during his first spell in charge of the club, described speculation that he will return as successor to new England boss Steve McClaren as 'rumours'.

But then he revealed: 'There was a little activity but it's not got any further than that.'

Venables, speaking at today's launch of ITV's World Cup coverage in London, jokingly put his new slim-line look down to a diet of cigars and champagne, and quipped: 'I haven't got much money in the bank at the moment.'

He will be part of ITV's match coverage in Germany but admitted that the lure of another crack at football management could tempt him even though he thought he had finished with that side of the game.

Asked about his management ambitions, he said: 'I haven't really had any. I just decided enough is enough.

'But it's one of those things that you never say no because things can come up and you just leave the door open a little.

'If something comes along I would be happy and if it doesn't I'll still be happy because I'm very happy the way things are going at the moment,' he added.
