Belletti enjoys trophy-winning moment

Barcelona right-back Juliano Belletti is determined to enjoy his finest moment as he proudly carries home the Champions League trophy.

Belletti could not have picked a better time to score his first goal for Barca than in yesterday's final against Arsenal at the Stade de France.

His 81st-minute goal gave the Spanish champions a 2-1 win and, more importantly, their second European crown.

'It doesn't happen often to be able to score when you play in defence,' said Belletti, who joined Barca from Villarreal in the summer of 2004.

'So to score in the Champions League final it's unbelievable, I never even dreamed of that possibility.

'When I scored, I thought about those players who aren't usually mentioned in the press.

'But above all, I dedicate this goal to my son, who gives me joy even in the most difficult times.'

The Brazilian-born player proved to be matchwinner for Frank Rijkaard's side, with only nine minutes remaining when he fired past Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia to give his team the edge.

Four minutes earlier, Barca forward Samuel Eto'o had cancelled out Sol Campbell's first-half lead. Jens Lehmann was dismissed in the first half for the Premiership side.

'From the bench you suffer a lot more,' admitted Belletti.

'When the coach told me to go on the pitch, he said to me that I had to attack, that I had to put pressure on the Arsenal defence.

'When the coach gives you so much confidence, it's so much easier.'

However, the 29-year-old was not certain that his goal would prove to be the winner.

'I kept my cool,' he said. 'We knew there were still 10 minutes remaining.

'We had to be careful because Jose Antonio Reyes had entered the pitch and we know what a great player he is so the game wasn't over.

'I still had to go back and help (Barca defender) Rafael Marquez because he was having a busy night with Thierry Henry having had a great game.'

The goal was all the more precious for Belletti considering he has had to overcome an injury-plagued season.

'I have suffered because I have had struggled with a problematic tendon that has ruled me out of many important games,' he said.

'For a player this isn't good but I never lost hope and the team never lost confidence in me, and I have valued their support.

'Besides the goal, the best thing for me tonight was to be told by the coaching staff and my team-mates that I deserve this moment.

'I know that people back in Barcelona are celebrating what has happened here tonight and I'm just happy to have been able to have a say in all of this.'
