Australia's Kewell ruled out of Greece friendly

MELBOURNE, May 15 (Reuters) - Liverpool's Harry Kewell has been ruled out of Australia's World Cup warm-up match against Greece in Melbourne later this month because of a groin strain picked up in Saturday's FA Cup final.

The 27-year-old limped off the pitch at the start of the second half in Cardiff and Australian team physiotherapist Les Gelis said on Monday that scans revealed he would be out of action for three weeks.

Kewell will remain in Europe to undergo treatment with Liverpool and Australia medical staff before linking up with his international team mates in the Netherlands on May 27.

The Socceroos play reigning European champions Greece at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on May 25 before flying to Europe for friendlies against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on June 4 and Liechtenstein in Ulm, Germany on June 7.

Football Federation Australia said there were no plans to call for any cover to the 23-man squad named by coach Guus Hiddink last week.

Australia have been drawn with holders Brazil, Japan and Croatia in Group F of the World Cup finals beginning in Germany on June 9.
