Vasco edge first leg of Copa Brasil semi-final

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 11 (Reuters) - Former Brazil striker Edilson scored a late goal as Vasco da Gama beat local rivals Fluminense 1-0 in the first leg of their Copa Brasil semi-final on Thursday.

Edilson, who was in Brazil's 2002 World Cup-winning squad, popped up unmarked to turn Hernani's cross into the net in the 76th minute at the Maracana.

Vasco had dominated the second half with Morais hitting the crossbar in the 58th minute while 'Flu' had enjoyed the better of the first.

Third division Ipatinga held Flamengo to a 1-1 draw in the other tie played Wednesday. The second legs will be played next week.
