Podolski set for Bayern after asking to leave Cologne

Germany striker Lukas Podolski looks set to join Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich after handing in a transfer request at relegated Cologne.

The 20-year-old announced his intentions following Saturday's embarrassing 6-0 defeat to Werder Bremen.

He told the Kolner Express: 'I have told the club management I would like to move to Bayern Munich.'

Bayern have reportedly already opened talks with the player and must now reach an agreement with Cologne over the transfer fee.

A clause in Podolski's contract means he can leave for 1million euros next year, meaning Cologne will be hoping to cash in this summer.
