'Hughes pens three-year Rovers extension'

Mark Hughes is reported to have signed a new three-year deal with Blackburn Rovers after leading the club into Europe.

Hughes has been linked with the vacant Newcastle United job but the former Wales striker and manager has always indicated a desire to remain at Ewood Park.

Hughes, who has steered the club into next season's UEFA Cup, has held talks over a new contract in recent weeks and has now signed a deal through to 2009, suggests a report on Sky Sports.
