Allardyce forces Diouf in to extra training

El-Hadji Diouf has been forced to undergo extra training sessions by Bolton manager Sam Allardyce after claiming the striker is not fit to play for the club.

Senegal international Diouf insists he is still troubled by a hernia injury despite surgery but Allardyce believes the problem is more a 'mental one' than a physical ailment and appears to have lost patience.

The former Liverpool front man has been put through a punishing routine of three training sessions a day, starting at 8.30am, which have now been reduced.

Diouf has also been excluded from the first-team dressing room at the club's Euxton training headquarters.

He is unlikely to figure in the final three games of the season as Bolton push for a UEFA Cup place for the second successive year.

Allardyce believes a hard-line stance is justified.

'It has moved around to a mental problem that he has in terms of gritting his teeth and going through a little bit of the pain barrier,' the Bolton boss said last week.

'He is not able to be selected and this is disappointing.'

Diouf last played on April 4 in the defeat to Birmingham when he was substituted after 68 minutes.
