MILAN, April 25 (Reuters) - AC Milan midfielder Massimo Ambrosini will miss the rest of the season after suffering a leg injury in Saturday's Serie A win over Messina.
Milan said Ambrosini had suffered a fibula fracture in his left leg and would be sidelined for a month.
The 28-year-old Italy international has been on the fringes at Milan for most of this season and was not in contention for a place in Marcello Lippi's World Cup squad.
However Ambrosini's absence comes at a bad time for Milan with Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf handed a two-match ban following his red card in the final minute of the 3-1 win at Messina.
Milan trail Juventus in Serie A by three points with three games of the season remaining.
The six-times European champions face Barcelona in their Champions League semi-final, second leg in Spain on Wednesday trailing 1-0 from the opening game.
