Premier Showdown - Apr 8/9

Tommy Smyth's decent post-Christmas form continued last weekend with another victory. His hopes of ultimate glory may be very slim, but perhaps he will look to take this kind of performance into next season?

That, of course, means it remains ever so tight at the top of the table with our Rest of the World team leading Dale Johnson by just 1.5 points. Could it get anymore exciting?

We're off to Belgium to select our challenger this weekend. Joining us is Mergia Yadessa.

Mergia, 32, is an MSc student at the University of Gent in Belgium. He's an ardent supporter of Arsenal and especially likes talismanic skipper Henry. I

Though currently residing in Belgium, he is actually from Ethiopia and he used to be a university lecturer at Debub University. Mergia will finish his studies by next Spetember and then return to Debub University once again.

Each week one of our readers, or an ESPNSoccernet Press Pass viewer, will get the chance to challenge our two experts. They, along with the challenger, will cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Soccernet's Premiership Editor, Dale Johnson, and Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the challenge from our team.

Points are then awarded as follows:

  • Three points for a correct result and scoreline
  • One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit will receive three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total will be added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points will be shared between those level on points.
