Racing Santander fans make monkey sounds at Eto'o

MADRID -- Barcelona's Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o was subjected to racist abuse from Racing Santander fans during their Primera Liga match on Sunday.

"In the 34th minute of the game a group of fans chanted, making the sound of a monkey when Eto'o touched the ball," referee Antonio Rubinos Perez said in his match report.

"I asked the club to make an announcement over the PA system calling for the fans to show respect towards the participants. This message went out soon after."

Eto'o, who scored Barcelona's second goal to put the scores level at 2-2 in the 33rd minute, was subjected to more abuse as the game continued.

He acted angrily in his goal celebration, running to the touchline and kicking the corner flag.

The game finished 2-2 to leave Barcelona 11 points clear at the top of the table.

In February, Eto'o tried to leave the pitch after being racially abused by Real Zaragoza fans.

The three-time African Player of the Year was convinced to complete the game, but Zaragoza were fined 9,000 euros ($10,728) by the Spanish Football Federation.
