PARIS, April 6 (Reuters) - The French Cup final will be played on April 29 instead of May 20 because of the World Cup, the French federation announced on Thursday.
'We had to take this decision in order to respect FIFA's window for the international games ahead of the World Cup, from May 15 to 22,' the federation said in a statement. The World Cup starts on June 9 in Germany.
'This measure has been decided to protect the French Cup's prestige. We want the clubs to be able to field their best teams,' the statement said.
The semi-finals will now be played on April 20. The final will be played at the Stade de France.
