Toni goal helps Fiorentina to a tie

ROME -- Fiorentina stayed one point ahead of AS Roma in the Serie A after a 1-1 tie. Luca Toni put Fiorentina in the lead after 50 seconds, but Leandro Cufre tied the score in the 72nd minute.

The tie gave Fiorentina 61 points with six games left. Both teams are trying to claim fourth place in Italy's top league and the last berth for next season's Champions League.

Defending champion Juventus leads with 79 points, nine ahead of second-place AC Milan and 11 more than Inter Milan.

Also Sunday, Chievo Verona stayed in sixth place with a 2-1 win over visiting Livorno, and Massimo Oddo scored an own-goal in injury time to help Empoli tie 3-3 at Lazio.

England
LONDON -- Charlton held West Ham to a 0-0 tie Sunday in the English Premier League, denying former English national team forward Teddy Sheringham a goal on his 40th birthday.

Sheringham, only the second field player to play in the Premier League at that age, came on as a halftime substitute and had a chance at goal in the 83rd minute.

West Ham's Anton Ferdinand flicked a corner kick to Sheringham at the far post. He did well to shoot from 6 yards, but goalkeeper Thomas Myhre blocked the ball with his arm.

Also, Middlesbrough beat host Manchester City 1-0. Lee Cattermole scored the only goal in the 42nd when he ran between two defenders to head in a cross from Stuart Downing.

France
PARIS -- Portugal striker Pauleta scored three times in the first half against his former team, and Paris Saint-Germain beat Bordeaux on Sunday to all but assure Lyon of a fifth straight French league title. Pauleta improved his league-leading tally to 20 goals with two headers and a penalty, while Edixon Perea scored for Bordeaux, which slipped 12 points behind standings leader Lyon with only six games remaining. Lyon, which won 1-0 at Troyes on Saturday, has 72 points from 32 matches, while Bordeaux remained in second with 60 points and Lille stayed in third with 54.

Spain
MADRID -- Valencia got its first win in seven games and climbed into third place in the Spanish League after beating Cadiz 5-3.

David Villa and Miguel Angel Angulo scored two goals each and David Navarro added the third.

Osasuna, which is hoping to play in next season's Champions League, lost to visiting Getafe 4-0 and dropped into fourth place.

Germany
BERLIN -- Hamburg SV moved into second place in the Bundesliga, winning a foul-plagued match against Schalke 2-0.

Rafael van der Vaart and Ailton scored the goals for Hamburg, which is seven points behind leader Bayern Munich and close to clinching a spot in next season's Champions League.

"We took a big step forward today, especially for the Champions League," Hamburg coach Thomas Doll said. "But there is no reason to spend the week celebrating -- there are still a lot of matches left."

Van der Vaart scored when his 57th-minute free kick, intended as a pass, bounced past three players in the area. Schalke defender Mladen Krstajic may have nudged it into the goal with his head.

Ailton then finished an 80th-minute breakaway with a low shot as Schalke, playing a man short following an ejection. was forced to open its defense in a match full of scoring chances from the opening whistle.

Also, Bielefeld edged Hannover 1-0.

Portugal
LISBON -- FC Porto won its fifth straight and stayed two points atop the Portuguese first division on Sunday, beating a nine-man Gil Vicente 3-0. Marek Cech scored just before halftime and -- after Injai Braima was ejected in the 52nd and Bruno Tiago followed 20 minutes later -- Ricardo Quaresma added a penalty in the 79th and Ibson completed the scoring in the 87th. The victory improved Porto to 66 points, two more than Sporting, which beat Guimaraes 1-0 on Saturday on a a goal by Liedson Muniz. Benfica remained in third place with 59 points following its 2-1 victory at Belenenses on Saturday.

Netherlands
AMSTERDAM -- Roda JC Kerkrade upset Ajax Amsterdam 2-1 in the Dutch League, and leader PSV Eindhoven must wait to clinch its 19th league title. Edrissa Sonko scored the winning goal in the 90th minute for Roda. Ajax had taken the lead in the 18th when Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored, but Olaf Lindenbergh scored an own-goal in the 27th to tie the score. PSV Eindhoven, which beat RBC Roosendaal 2-1 Saturday, leads with 79 points. AZ Alkmaar is second with 67 points, followed by Feyenoord with 66 and FC Utrecht with 55. PSV needs one point to clinch and could get the title Tuesday if AZ loses its rescheduled game against NAC Breda.

Scotland
GLASGOW -- Hearts outplayed neighbor Hibernian 4-0 to advance to the Scottish Cup final. Paul Hartley scored three goals against his former team and Edgaras Jankauskas added the other for Hearts, which will face division two champion Gretna in the final on May 13. In the Scottish Premier League, third-place Rangers beat Dundee United 4-1. Kris Boyd scored three goals for Rangers and Dado Prso added the other.

Greece
ATHENS -- AEK Athens beat Levadiakos 2-0 to take over sole possession of second place in the Greek League. Vladan Ivic and Nikos Lymberopoulos scored a goal each to help AEK open up a two-point lead over crosstown rival Panathinaikos, which drew 1-1 at fifth-place Xanthi. Fanis Gekas scored for Panathinaikos, and Francisco Zuela tied the score.
