Wizards top Crew in MLS opener
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Eddie Johnson scored in his first game with Kansas City, leading the Wizards to a 3-1 win over the Columbus Crew on Saturday night in the MLS opener for both teams.
Johnson's goal came in the 61st minute and gave Kansas City a 3-1 lead. The Wizards acquired Johnson from FC Dallas in February. Johnson, a U.S. national team member, had 24 goals and five assists in 84 career games with his previous team.
Davy Arnaud and Jack Jewsbury had first-half goals for the Wizards.
Kei Kamara scored for the Crew in the 33rd minute from near the top of the penalty area on a pass from Eddie Gaven. Columbus missed a chance to tie when Wizards goalkeeper Bo Oshoniyi made a diving stop on a shot by Kamara in the 57th minute.
The Wizards played without their leading scorer from last season, Josh Wolff, who is recovering from a concussion he sustained playing for the U.S. national team.
