CHICAGO -- The United States is closing in on an agreement to play Latvia on May 28 at East Hartford, Conn., the final exhibition game for the Americans before they leave for World Cup.
The Union of European Football Associations said on its Web site Tuesday that Latvia had agreed to the game. The U.S. Soccer Federation doesn't announce exhibition games until contracts are signed, and USSF spokesman Jim Moorhouse said Thursday a deal had not been finalized.
The United States next plays at World Cup host Germany on March 22, then meets Jamaica on April 11 at Cary, N.C. The Americans, preparing for their fifth straight World Cup, are planning two other home games in late May. They may meet Morocco on May 23 in Nashville, Tenn., then play in Cleveland on May 26.
