Real Madrid complain to FIFA over Inter Milan's Luka Modric pursuit

FC's Paul Mariner sifts through all the latest rumours surrounding Paul Pogba, Luka Modric, Ousmane Dembele and many more in Rumour Rater.
The FC panel answer your tweets on Real Madrid's needs, Bayern Munich's UCL expectations and whether Higuain or Ronaldo will score more this season.

Real Madrid made an official complaint to FIFA over what they consider an illegal approach by Inter Milan for Luka Modric, world football's governing body has confirmed to ESPN FC.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez said earlier this month that the Croatia midfielder has a €750 million release clause in his contract, which still has two years left to run.

However, a FIFA spokesperson has confirmed to ESPN FC that the European champions have reported Serie A side Inter over an alleged approach to the player without their consent.

There is also the matter of Inter openly speaking about the player, and they have not denied their conduct, with coach Luciano Spalletti saying recently that "we are trying to create the right conditions for him to join Inter Milan."

Inter director Piero Ausilio reportedly said "We'll see" when asked about Modric before they played Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano in the International Champions Cup last weekend.

Emilio Butragueno, Real Madrid's director of institutional relations, when asked about the midfielder's situation after the European Super Cup in Tallinn on Wednesday night, said: "There is no issue with Modric, and he couldn't be happier to continue with us."

Italy's transfer window on Friday, Aug. 17, at 20:00 CET, and the season kicks off this weekend, making a transfer highly unlikely at this stage.

Javier Tebas, president of La Liga, on Thursday mentioned Inter as he bemoaned the increase in billionaire-backed foreign clubs poaching the league's star players, following Cristiano Ronaldo's and Neymar's departures.

"What we have to do is ask ourselves why this is happening," Tebas told ABC. "It will be necessary to ask why there are [clubs funded by the governments] that are inflating the market.

"Things do not just happen because of management mistakes, which I do not think is the case, but because in other places happen things that should not happen.

"I am speaking about PSG, but also about Juventus, with the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, or to these offers from Inter Milan, who have no money to sign players and then offer Modric a huge sum of money to collect in I do not know where ..."
