Burnley snap up Czech striker Matej Vydra from Derby County

Burnley have signed Matej Vydra from Derby County ahead of the start of their Premier League campaign.

BURNLEY, England -- Czech Republic striker Matej Vydra has joined Burnley from Championship side Derby County as Sean Dyche continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the Premier League season.

Burnley said the 26-year-old has signed a three-year-deal, with a further 12-month option. The transfer fee was undisclosed but British media reported the move would cost Burnley in the region of £11 million pounds.

Vydra, who had spells in the Premier League with Watford and West Bromwich Albion before settling at Derby, was top scorer in the second-tier Championship last season with 21 goals.

But with Derby missing out in the promotion playoffs, the forward said he wanted to test himself again in the top flight and is leaving the club now managed by Frank Lampard.

"My ambition is to play in the best league in the world so thank you to the gaffer here and to Burnley for giving me a hand to play in the Premier League and now I have to show he chose the right person," said Vydra, who has 20 caps for his country.

Vydra offers Dyche a different option in attack, given that he operates as a slightly withdrawn striker, and could form a partnership with another former Championship top scorer, New Zealander Chris Wood.

Earlier on Tuesday, Burnley completed the signing of England goalkeeper Joe Hart from Manchester City and they have also signed central defender Ben Gibson from Middlesbrough for a joint club record fee of £15m.
