Tottenham's Son Heung-Min signs new five-year contract until 2023
Tottenham handed forward Son Heung-Min a new five-year contract until 2023 on Friday.
Son, a South Korea international, has scored 47 goals in 140 games in all competitions since signing from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, and appeared in 43 of Tottenham's 45 games last season.
He was the first Asian player to win the Premier League's Player of the Month award in September 2016, before winning it again in April 2017.
Since joining Tottenham, Son has overtaken Park Ji-Sung as the highest-scoring Asian player in Premier League history, and has also won the South Korean Footballer of the Year Award three times, and Asian Player of the Year twice.
After being knocked out of the group stage at the World Cup, Son needs to win the 2018 Asian Games with his country in order to gain immunity from military service.
He has been included in their squad for the tournament, which will run from Aug. 14 to Sept. 1, meaning he could miss Tottenham's three Premier League games following their season opener at Newcastle.
