Capello warns cup rivals Roma

ROME, Jan 30 (Reuters) - Juventus coach Fabio Capello has warned Italian Cup rivals AS Roma that his Serie A leaders mean business in Wednesday's quarter-final second leg (kickoff 2000 GMT).

Juve lost the first leg 3-2 in Turin after fielding a below-strength side. The defeat came after a 1-1 draw with Chievo and a laboured 2-1 win over Empoli in Serie A but they returned to form at the weekend in a 3-1 victory at Ascoli.

'We have put last week's (first leg) defeat behind us and answered all those people who thought we were in decline,' Capello was quoted as saying in Corriere dello Sport on Monday.

Juve fielded three first-team regulars in the first leg and went 3-0 down before two late goals from substitute Alessandro Del Piero gave the Turin side renewed hope.

The task facing Juventus at Rome's Olympic Stadium is a formidable one, however, and Capello is unlikely to send out another weakened side.

With away goals counting double, Juve will almost certainly have to win by a two-goal margin to make it through.

Roma are in superb form. The 2001 Italian champions have won their last six Serie A matches and their attack will be bolstered by their captain, Francesco Totti, who has recovered from the ankle injury that kept him out of the first leg. Totti scored twice in the 3-0 home win over Livorno on Sunday.

In the other quarter-finals, AC Milan take a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their tie against Palermo, who are playing their first match under new coach Giuseppe Papadopulo (Tuesday, 2000 GMT).

Papadopulo took over from Luigi Del Neri at the weekend after the Sicilians suffered their fifth defeat in the last seven Serie A matches.

Cup holders Inter Milan host Lazio (Thursday, 2000 GMT) with the scores at 1-1 after the first leg, while Udinese travel to Genoa to take on Sampdoria, also level at 1-1 (Wednesday 1700 GMT).
