Ghana tops Senegal; Nigeria stays unbeaten

PORT SAID, Egypt -- Ghana defeated Senegal 1-0 Friday to rebound from an opening loss at the African Cup of Nations, and Nigeria beat Zimbabwe 2-0 for its second victory.

Ghana, which plays the United States in the opening round of the World Cup, went ahead on Matthew Amoah's goal on an angled shot in the 13th minute. Ghana had lost to Nigeria 1-0 in its opener.

Ghana's Laryea Kingston and Senegal's Habib Beye were ejected in the 62nd minute by Moroccan referee Abdel Rahim Arjoune following a scuffle.

In the second game, Nigeria burst ahead when Christian Obodo scored on a header off a corner kick in the 57th minute and substitute John Obi Mikel added a goal three minutes later.

Nigeria (2-0) leads Group D with six points, followed by Senegal and Ghana (both 1-1) with three apiece. Zimbabwe is 0-2.
