LAFC sell defender Omar Gaber to Pyramids FC because of 'family matter'

Adama Diomande made it nine goals from his first seven games for LAFC to condemn Orlando City to their ninth defeat on the trot.

LAFC defender Omar Gaber will join Pyramids FC of the Egyptian Premier League, after the MLS club sold him because of a "family matter" in Egypt.

Gaber, 26, had been on loan at LAFC from FC Basel, but the MLS team bought out his option to make the deal permanent before subsequently selling him on to Pyramids for an undisclosed fee.

The move was made to accommodate a personal situation for Gaber, who is a native of Cairo and played for Egypt at the World Cup in Russia. He initially joined LAFC in part because of a connection with manager Bob Bradley, who coached him with the Egypt national team.

"Omar is a great player and person," LAFC executive VP of soccer operations and general manager John Thorrington said in a statement. "He made us aware of a family matter in Egypt and we were able to accommodate his move with a deal that makes sense financially for the club. We wish him all the best in the next step of his career."

Gaber, who initially joined LAFC as a discovery player using targeted allocation money, appeared in seven matches (two starts) with LAFC this season, his first in MLS.

"We would like to thank Omar for his contributions to the Club," said Bradley. "We wish him great success as he continues his career back in Egypt."

LAFC, which is off to the best start in MLS expansion team history since 1998, is in second place in MLS' Western Conference with 34 points and returns to action on Sunday, July 15, against the Portland Timbers.
