Portsmouth in fight for Pole Krzynowek

Relegation-haunted Portsmouth are facing major opposition from SV Hamburg and Italian giants Roma in their bid to sign Poland midfielder Jacek Krzynowek on loan from Bayer Leverkusen for the remaining four months of the season.

Harry Redknapp, whose four new recruits since Alexandre Gaydamak paid £15million for joint ownership of the club have endured two straight defeats, also wants Charlton goalkeeper Dean Kiely.

Pompey's chief executive Peter Storrie has flown to Germany to try to persuade the 29-year-old Krzynowek he should come to the south coast to help boost his World Cup ambitions after falling out of favour with Leverkusen's new coach Michael Skibbe.

Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric confirmed: 'Peter is in Germany trying to sort things out.'

Mandaric told the Portsmouth News: 'It is going to be a challenge trying to convince him (Krzynowek) to come here because there are a lot of big clubs interested.'
