Kelly considers quitting Tottenham

Tottenham defender Stephen Kelly insists he will be forced to reconsider his options if he is dropped for next Tuesday's clash with Fulham.

Kelly made only his fourth appearance of the season in Saturday's 0-0 draw with Aston Villa, capitalising on Paul Stalteri's one-match suspension to win a rare start.

The former Ireland under-21 skipper is behind Stalteri in the full-back pecking order at White Hart Lane this term and is becoming increasingly frustrated by his lack of opportunity.

'If I'm not in the side for the Fulham game I'll have to look at things again,' he said.

'I thought I did well against Villa and if I keep my place then I keep my place. If I don't then we'll see what happens.'

Kelly has been told by boss Martin Jol that he has a future at Spurs but the 22-year-old academy product, a regular last season, craves first team action in order to press his international claims.

'I've haven't spoken to anyone. I just want to play so it's been difficult this season,' he told the Evening Standard.

'I don't know what's going to happen. I'll just wait and see what happens until the transfer window closes. The manager said he didn't want me to go.

'I think there's a future for me at Tottenham but I'm 22 and to progress and be pushing for an international place I need to be playing first team football.'
