Middlesbrough have had a bid rejected for Slavia Prague defender Martin Latka, according to the Czech club.
The 21-year-old Czech Republic Under-21 international has nevertheless flown to Malaga in Spain for a seven-day trial with the Barclays Premiership strugglers, who have not won a league game for two months.
'Slavia have received an offer from Middlesbrough which does not correspond with our ideas, but the negotiations will continue,' said Slavia press officer Alexander Kliment.
According to reports in the Czech Republic, the 6ft 4in defender - who already speaks good English - has been monitored by Boro for some time, with scouts present at several of Slavia's UEFA Cup games this season.
'My dream might come true,' Latka said after Slavia's friendly with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.
'I appreciate this chance highly as I am a great admirer of English soccer and Premiership.'
