Czech midfielder Vladimir Smicer levelled for Bordeaux on 53 minutes, twisting his way past two defenders before scoring from inside the box.

Le Mans needed penalties to knock out second division Guingamp in the other quarter-final played on Tuesday.

Goalless after 90 minutes, the match came to life in extra-time, striker Cedric Faure putting Le Mans ahead before Arnaud Gonzalez levelled on 117.
