Copa holders Betis drawn against Real Madrid

MADRID, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Holders Real Betis were handed an attractive draw against Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey on Friday.

The Andalucians, who are battling for survival in the Primera Liga this season, play the first leg at home next week and the return at the Bernabeu seven days later.

The Cup has become one of Real's priorities this year after their chances of winning the league have faded in the face of Barcelona's irresistible form this season.

Real eased their way into the last eight after a 4-0 win over a sorry looking Athletic Bilbao on Thursday allowed them to complete a 5-0 aggregate victory over the Basque side.

Barca will meet the winners of the tie between Atletico Madrid and Real Zaragoza which was postponed after 14 members of the Atletico squad were laid low by a stomach complaint.

The Catalans stormed their way into the quarters when they completed a crushing 9-1 aggregate victory over third division Zamora with a 6-0 win at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.

Zaragoza, who defeated Real Madrid in the final of the Cup two years ago, have the upper hand in the tie against Atletico after a 1-0 win in the first leg at the Calderon.

In one of the most evenly balanced ties a rejuvenated Deportivo Coruna will meet an improving Valencia, while at least one of the Primera Liga's more modest sides will make the semis after Cadiz and Espanyol were paired together.
