Halil Altintop to join Schalke at end of season

BERLIN, Jan 8 (Reuters) - Turkey international striker Halil Altintop will join FC Schalke 04 from Kaiserslautern on a free transfer at the end of the season, the Bundesliga club said on Sunday.

Altintop, who has signed a four-year-contract, will join his twin brother Hamit at Schalke.

'He has done fabulously at Kaiserslautern,' Schalke manager Andreas Mueller said in a statement. 'He was the dream candidate for our attack.'

Altintop, 23, has scored 13 goals for relegation candidates Kaiserslautern and is second highest top scorer in the Bundesliga behind Werder Bremen's Miroslav Klose.

Schalke are fourth in the Bundesliga, 13 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
