Elliott completes move to Fulham from MLS
Fulham today completed the signing of New Zealand midfielder Simon Elliott on a free transfer from Columbus Crew.
Elliott, who has amassed over 50 caps for his country, has agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Cottagers and goes straight into the starting line-up for Sunday's FA Cup third-round clash with Leyton Orient.
The 31-year-old reached three Major League Soccer Cup Finals with Columbus Crew, the club which also supplied Carlos Bocanegra and Bryan McBride to Fulham.
Elliott said: 'Signing for Fulham is an exciting move for me as I have always had an ambition to play in the Premiership.
'There is a great spirit around the camp here and the players have all been very welcoming, so I am eager to establish myself in the squad and to play in this fantastic league.'
Fulham's efforts to sign Benfica centre-back Jose Fonte on a six-month loan deal have ended in failure with the 22-year-old unable to train at Craven Cottage.
Boss Chris Coleman said: 'We wanted to sign Jose but have not been able to do that. We wanted to take a look at him but he was not allowed to train with us for various different reasons.'
Coleman refused to comment on speculation linking Fulham with moves for Celtic midfielder Stilian Petrov and Tottenham's former Fulham favourite Sean Davis.
