READING, England -- American goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann has signed a one-year contract extension with runaway League Championship leader Reading that will keep him with the Royals until the end of the 2006-07 season.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper, likely to be a backup to Kasey Keller on the U.S. World Cup team, has not missed a league game since the end of the 2003-04 season. Reading has a 10-point lead and is on course for its first promotion to the Premier League.
"It's always nice to have your future sorted," Hahnemann said Thursday. "The club had an option in the summer, anyway, but it's nice to get it done early.
"I've been here a while now, I've played 170-odd games, and I think the team has grown and I've grown with it. Everyone has done well. The strikers have been scoring. The midfielders have done well both going forward and at the back. It's been great."
