Premier Showdown - Dec 31

Another great couple of rounds for Dale Johnson, so much so we're beginning to grow very tired of his insipid run of points scoring.

Our Premiership Editor picked up a victory on Wednesday, hot on the heels of a draw with Tommy Smyth on Boxing Day. Remarkably, it was the first draw of the Premier Showdown season in the 18th round.

So, on to fun and frolics of New Year's Eve. Good luck to those Reading fans who will still be sat in their seats at Derby County at 7pm!

Our brave challenger, for the final time this calendar year, is Alexis Cortes.

Alexis is 25 and from the Philippines. He works in online football betting inside a Casino - Sean Smith eat your heart out!

Our competitor, a die-hard fan of Liverpool, is only six months into his job and before he wasn't into footy at all but, as he says: 'Now everyday is an exciting match day, watching live matches and live scores. It's now easy for me to predict who's gonna win in a match (hmm, we'll see - Ed).

He's covering his back by claiming that it's really hard to predict full-time scores a week ahead of the matchday. 'A lot of factors have to be considered like player injuries and resting, how the team performs in defence and attack, who will be playing etc. For now these are just my 'guesses' as matchday is still four days away. Though I'm sure that Liverpool will win again!'

Excuses at the ready!

Each week one of our readers, or an ESPNSoccernet Press Pass viewer, will get the chance to challenge our two experts. They, along with the challenger, will cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Soccernet's Premiership Editor, Dale Johnson, and Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the challenge from our team.

Points are then awarded as follows:

  • Three points for a correct result and scoreline
  • One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit will receive three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total will be added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points will be shared between those level on points.
