Sporting Cristal win Peruvian championship
LIMA, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Sporting Cristal won the Peruvian championship on Wednesday night when they beat Cienciano 1-0 in the final played in the southern city of Arequipa.
Midfielder Carlos Zegarra headed the only goal in the 44th minute, helping former Peru midfielder Jose del Solar land a trophy just nine months into his coaching career.
Cienciano had won the first stage of the championship played earlier this year while Cristal won the second stage.
Cristal are considered one of Peru's big three clubs alongside Alianza Lima and Universitario, and last won the championship in 2002.
