Premier Showdown - Dec 17/18

There's festive cheer in one camp of our predictions game. Dale Johnson stormed to his fourth win on the bounce last weekend, and in the process he recorded a seasonal (see what we did there) best of 14 points. The others didn't come close.

Dale may have a cushion of three rounds, but over the next couple of weeks there will be a whopping five sets of games in the usual Christmas glut of games. So it's all up for grabs and even Tommy Smyth might claim a victory!

With there being so many games coming up, and the Soccernet team also eager to enjoy the odd mince pie and glass of sherry, there are entry forms for all four festive football feasts. So do make sure you enter for more than one round to increase your chances of being selected. In addition, the more you write about yourself also makes it more likely you'll take on our experts.

Taking up the challenge this weekend is Damian Parkes who resides down under in Australia.

Damian, 36, comes from Manly in Sydney, a born and bred Aussie, though his family is from Leeds - and he follows United passionately. He says: 'Come on Leeds, were moving back to the Premiership this year!' We say: 'Dream on!'

Our challenger is an Alliances Manager in the I.T. industry covering Asia Pacific. And he's disappointed Australia didn't draw England in the World Cup and he 'claims' Sven will not play a friendly against the Aussies due to the rivalry.

'Come on Sven, the fans want to see another England v Australia!' he says. Look, you've just had your backsides spanked in the cricket, you don't want it to happen again!

Each week one of our readers, or an ESPNSoccernet Press Pass viewer, will get the chance to challenge our two experts. They, along with the challenger, will cast their eyes over weekend's top flight fixtures in England and predict how they think each game will turn out.

Soccernet's Premiership Editor, Dale Johnson, and Press Pass pundit Tommy Smyth take up the challenge from our team.

Points are then awarded as follows:

  • Three points for a correct result and scoreline
  • One point for a correct result

After the weekend's scores are in and the result has been worked out, the winning pundit will receive three points for their season's total. Should the challenger win, the total will be added to the 'Rest of the World's' tally. In the case of a draw, the points will be shared between those level on points.

Damian takes what can only be described as a hollow victory in a pitiful week of scoring. These guys really need to start thinking about the fixtures a bit more. But, hey, at least the Rest of the World are back in the race for the title!

    Overall score after 17 rounds:
    Dale: 24
    Rest of the World: 18
    Tommy: 9

You can tune in to ESPNSoccernet Press Pass every Friday to see the picks revealed, and the previous week's results analysed. They will also be displayed here at Soccernet.

So do you think you can beat the best of the best? Now is your chance to find out!

Send us your picks for next weekend's fixtures, along with your name and a few details about yourself. We'll select one person each week to take on our experts for the right to be crowned the weekly winner!

Then log on to Soccernet on Sunday evening to find out who's taken the points.
