Kermit Erasmus signs for AFC Eskilstuna in Sweden

South Africa international Kermit Erasmus has completed a move to AFC Eskilstuna, according to the Swedish side's official website.

The 27-year-old had been without a club after he was released from his contract at Stade Rennais in February 2018, and had been linked with a move back to his homeland.

Erasmus has signed a two-year deal with the second-tier side, and is keen to rediscover the form that once made him one of the most feared attackers in southern Africa.

"I hope to win the love of fans through my goals," he told AFC Eskilstuna's website. "It was a difficult decision to make, but there is a good opportunity for me to play again.

"I have not played football for a few months so I have a lot of desire," he added. "I just want to be happy doing something that I like."

Erasmus broke through at SuperSport United in 2007 before being snapped up by Dutch giants Feyenoord a year later.

He struggled to make his mark at De Kuip, despite a promising loan spell at Excelsior, and returned to SSU in 2010.

The diminutive forward rebuilt his reputation in the PSL, winning the title in 2008, and secured a move to Orlando Pirates where he would become a two-time Nedbank Cup winner in 2014.

A transfer to Rennes in 2016 never truly worked out, although Erasmus did impress briefly on loan at Racing Club de Lens in Ligue 2.
