Jail keeps Gashi out of European tie
OSLO, Aug 10 (Reuters) - A jail term for speeding will keep midfielder Ardian Gashi out of the return leg of Valerenga Oslo's Champions League qualifying tie against Club Bruges.
The 24-year-old was stopped by police last year for driving at 136 kph (84.5 mph) in an 80 kph zone.
He was sentenced to 18 days in prison in February, the sentence starting from Wednesday. His appeals for the sentence to be delayed until after the end of the summertime domestic soccer season were rejected.
Gashi said he gave his all in the first leg of the third round qualifier on Tuesday, won 1-0 by Valerenga.
'I will be resting in jail for a couple of weeks and found no reason to save my strength,' Gashi told Norwegian daily VG.
The Champions League second legs are in two weeks' time. Valerenga are second in the Norwegian league behind IK Start.
Gashi will take a soccer ball to jail with him to stay in form.
