Betis worth more against Monaco - Edu
MADRID, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Real Betis were short-changed by their last-gasp 1-0 victory at home to 2004 Champions League runners-up Monaco, said goal scorer Edu.
'We deserved to win by a much bigger margin,' the Brazilian striker said after the match in Seville. 'The goal was the least we deserved and was a reflection of the way we played during the game.'
Playing in their first ever Champions League game, the Andalucians looked nervous in the opening minutes but went on to dominate for most of the match, creating a succession of clear scoring chances and hitting the woodwork three times.
The Spaniards finally got their reward in the third minute of injury time when Edu beat the offside trap to meet a neat pass from midfielder Alberto Rivera and steer the ball inside the post from the edge of the area.
'We had a lot of opportunities but we let them off the hook. Thankfully, though, we had the good fortune to eventually get a goal,' said Edu.
'This result is very different from a 0-0 draw and now we can go into the second leg knowing that we can use our speed on the break as they will have to come out at us and try and score.'
The second leg of the third qualifying round tie is on August 23.
