LA Galaxy acquire San Jose Earthquakes keeper David Bingham

The Galaxy are hoping David Bingham fills a need at goalkeeper.

The LA Galaxy have completed a deal to acquire San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham, the club announced on Monday.

In the deal, San Jose receives $100,000 in General Allocation Money and $100,000 in Targeted Allocation Money for next season. The club could also receive an additional $50,000 in GAM in 2019 depending on performance-based stipulations linked to Bingham's 2018 season.

Bingham, 28, joins the Galaxy after enduring a difficult 2017 campaign, one in which he lost his starting spot in San Jose to Andrew Tarbell.

Bingham has considerable MLS experience, working as an understudy to Jon Busch for four seasons before securing the starting role in 2015.

He played in 96 league matches and received a call-up by the United States during that time, making three appearances.

Bingham's move also sees him reunited with LA assistant coach Dominic Kinnear, who managed Bingham for parts of three seasons in San Jose.

Bingham will be filling a position of need in Los Angeles, where three different goalkeepers made at least seven starts for the Galaxy in 2017. Currently, none of that trio -- Jon Kempin, Brian Rowe, and Clement Diop -- is still with the club.

Rowe was traded to Vancouver on last week, Diop was claimed in the waiver draft by the Montreal Impact, and Kempin was traded to Columbus Crew SC.
