Crystal Palace eyeing former AC Milan striker Alberto Gilardino - sources

Alberto Gilardino's services are desperately needed by Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace are considering a move for former AC Milan striker Alberto Gilardino to solve their goal scoring problems, sources in Italy have told ESPN FC.

New Palace boss Roy Hodgson is scouring the free agent market as he looks to add to his attacking options after losing No.1 striker Christian Benteke for at least six weeks with a knee injury.

Palace have failed to score a goal or earn a point from their opening seven Premier League games to leave them rooted to the bottom of the table, and Hodgson is desperate to bring in a striker to fill the void left by Benteke's injury.

A number of strikers have been linked with Palace, and sources said Italian World Cup winner Gilardino has emerged on their radar.

Gilardino is currently without a club after leaving Pescara at the end of last season.

The 35-year-old was previously linked with a move to Major League Soccer with the Montreal Impact, but the experienced forward has yet to fix himself up with a new club.

Gilardino, who won the Champions League with AC Milan in 2007, boasts a wealth of experience after making over 600 appearances in his career and scoring 226 goals in his career.

Palace are now considering offering the former Fiorentina forward a short-term deal at Selhurst Park as they look to end their goal drought.
