Swansea loan Ecuador international winger Jefferson Montero to Getafe

Jefferson Montero is returning to Spain, where he played for Villarreal, Levante and Real Betis.

Swansea City have loaned Jefferson Montero to Getafe, the La Liga club announced on Friday afternoon.

The Ecuador international winger returns to Spain where he had previous stints at Villarreal, Levante and Real Betis.

Getafe welcomed the player with a message: "Jeff Montero is a new Getafe player on the day of his 28th birthday. Double congratulations!"

The club added in a statement: "Getafe and Swansea City have reached an agreement for the loan move of Jefferson Montero."

Montero has three years remaining on his Swansea contract but was keen to leave the Liberty Stadium having failed to feature for under Paul Clement this campaign.

The 28-year-old, who shone during his first season in South Wales after arriving from Mexican club Monarcas Morelia in 2014, struggled with injuries the past season and made just 14 appearances.

Montero last played in La Liga in the 2011-12 campaign, where he made 32 league appearances for Betis.
