Stade Rennais eyeing Sofiane Feghouli

Stade Rennais are considering a move for West Ham United's Sofiane Feghouli, according to reports in France.

L'Equipe have reported that the Ligue 1 side are been to bring the Algeria international to Brittany this summer, and have already made initial contacts with the attacking midfielder's entourage.

Feghouli had a testing first season at the London Stadium after being recruited from Valencia on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee last summer.

He managed 21 appearances in the top flight, but only 11 were starts, and he registered three goals and three assists. All but one of those decisive contributes came after mid-January, with Feghouli's underwhelming form during the first half of the campaign arguably costing him his place in Algeria's Africa Cup of Nations squad.

The Hammers would be open to cashing in on the North African, according to the source, but it remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old would be willing to return to French football.

Paris-born Feghouli began his senior career with Grenoble after spells with Red Star Paris and Paris FC as a youngster, and also spent time on loan with Almeria after moving to Valencia in 2010.

He was Algerian Footballer of the Year in 2012, and won the discontinued LFP award for the best African player in La Liga in 2015.

L'Equipe believe that Feghouli's relationship with current Rennes coach Christian Gourcuff - who managed Algeria between 2014 and 2016 - could work in the French side's favour as they look to recruit the international wideman.
