Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva in Rome to seal transfer to Lazio

Gab Marcotti explains why Liverpool and RB Leipzig are in a stalemate over the English side's pursuit of Naby Keita.

ESPN's Liverpool correspondent Glenn Price feels the club must add strength in depth to compete for the title next season.

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has arrived in Rome ahead of a move to Serie A side Lazio.

Lucas, 30, is set to complete a €5.5 million transfer to the Italian side. He touched down on Sunday at Fiumicino Airport, where he was welcomed by cheering supporters.

The Brazil international is scheduled to have his medical exam on Monday morning, before officially signing with the club.

"I am happy to be here," Lucas told reporters at the airport. "I haven't yet spoken to [manager] Simone Inzaghi.

"Forza Lazio!"

Lucas will replace the departed Lucas Biglia in the Lazio midfield. The Argentina international sealed his move to AC Milan for €17m plus €3m bonuses earlier on Sunday.

Lucas Leiva made 346 appearances for Liverpool in his decade of service.

Lucas, who is currently Liverpool's longest-serving player, had widely been linked with a return to Gremio, with their club president Odorico Roman confirming his interest in the player.

Lucas came close to leaving Liverpool in January after the club told him they would not stand in his way amid interest from Inter Milan due to his loyal service.

He made 346 appearances during his decade at Anfield, last season playing 31 times in midfield and central defence.
