Man United still confident Lukaku coming, Rooney going - sources
Manchester United are close to completing the signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton, with sources telling ESPN FC that Chelsea's late matching bid will not derail the Belgium international's move to Old Trafford.
Lukaku, 24, is on the brink of sealing his transfer to United and could even be announced before Saturday lunchtime in the UK.
The former Chelsea forward will then meet up with his new teammates in Los Angeles on Sunday ahead of a likely debut against LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center on July 15.
Once Lukaku has been confirmed as a United player, Everton will finalise Wayne Rooney's return to Goodison Park -- 13 years after he left for Old Trafford as an 18-year-old.
Everton are prepared to break their wage structure to sign the former England captain, who will nonetheless take a sizeable pay cut to return to Goodison.
Chelsea's £75m bid for Lukaku falls short of the full value of United's offer, which is worth closer to £90m due to Rooney's involvement in the deal.
Although the 31-year-old will be announced by Everton separately, the mechanics of United's offer incorporate the financial settlement to Rooney, who will be leaving Old Trafford with a year remaining on his contract.
