Liverpool yet to make an approach for RB Leipzig's Naby Keita - sources

RB Leipzig have received no approach from Liverpool regarding the transfer of Naby Keita, sources have told ESPN FC.

Keita, 22, is on Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's radar following a hugely impressive first season in the Bundesliga with Leipzig.

The Times reports that Liverpool are ready to test Leipzig's resolve by making a club-record bid for the Guinea international.

However, sources have told ESPN FC that, as of Friday morning, Liverpool have yet to follow up their interest with either a transfer bid or formal approach to Leipzig.

Reports in Germany this past week have said Leipzig would not sell Keita for less than €80 million, but sources within the club say they have not set a price tag for the midfielder because they do not want to sell him.

Leipzig expect Keita to report for preseason training on July 12, which will be slightly later than other teammates due to his participation with Guinea over the summer.

After finishing runners-up to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season, Leipzig will play in the Champions League during the 2017-18 campaign.

Naby Keita
Naby Keita has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.

And CEO Oliver Mintzlaff is determined to keep the club's top players -- Keita, Emil Forsberg and Timo Werner -- this summer.

"It would be negligent to give away one of our key players now," Mintzlaff recently said. "Emil and Naby are both extremely talented players with a lot of potential.

"We are delighted that we as a club can keep up with their development and that we can prove ourselves in the Champions League in the upcoming season."

However, Forsberg's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, followed those comments by saying his client "wants to make the next step in his career" and is ready to move on from Leipzig.

Keita moved to Leipzig from sister club Salzburg last summer. In his debut season in a major European league, he scored eight goals in 31 appearances from midfield.

In kicker's end-of-season poll for the best outfield player last term, Keita finished second to Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski.
