Juventus confirm Dani Alves will be released from final year of contract

Juventus have confirmed that Dani Alves will be released from his current contract, further clearing the way for Manchester City to secure a deal for the former Barcelona defender.

The Brazilian had one more year remaining on a two-year deal with the Italian champions, but Juve chief executive Beppe Marotta said they have agreed to let him go.

Sources told ESPN FC that City boss Pep Guardiola wants to be reunited with Alves, who he managed at Barca, and talks over a deal can now begin.

Marotta was quoted in Tuttosport saying: "We're not talking about a breakdown in the relationship, it's motivation that is fundamental for players.

"Alves has realised he has a desire to try a new experience, so we're trying to reach a mutual termination of his contract and we wish him good luck.

"There's certainly sadness because of what's been said, but I can confirm there's been no breakdown in our relationship."

Premier League champions Chelsea have also been linked with a move for Alves, but the 34-year-old is expected to choose to work with Guardiola -- a coach he has hailed in the past.

And Alves may not be the only right-back to join the club this summer with City heavily linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur's Kyle Walker, although there has been no breakthrough over an agreement yet.

Guardiola allowed both veteran right-backs Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna to leave at the end of the season when their contracts expired.

Juventus, meanwhile, have received good news in their pursuit of Sevilla midfielder Steven N'Zonzi with the Spanish club's president Jose Castro saying he has not "closed the door" on a deal.
