Maxwell thanks Paris Saint-Germain fans after Parc des Princes farewell

PARIS -- Paris Saint-Germain left-back Maxwell was grateful for the emotional farewell he was afforded by the capital club and the supporters present at Parc des Princes for Saturday's Ligue 1 season-ending 1-1 draw against Caen.

Ronny Rodelin's late equaliser cancelled out Adrien Rabiot's opener but the 35-year-old was the main focus of attention as he played his final match at Les Parisiens' home stadium.

"PSG will remain in my heart and the Parc will always be my home," Maxwell said after the final whistle. "I have had a lot of wonderful experiences here, not just on the pitch but also with the all the people at the club. I am very moved tonight, after five and a half years of amazing times.

"The captain's armband? Being captain tonight meant a lot to me -- it was a great moment, for sure."

PSG coach Unai Emery hailed Maxwell and underlined the defender's qualities as a player and as a person.

"He fully earned the tribute -- he is a great man and he brought a lot to PSG," Emery said after the match. "He is a top player, both on and off the pitch. He never stopped proving that to us. It was a very emotional night."

Although goalkeeper Kevin Trapp saved a penalty from Rodelin to keep PSG in the lead 15 minutes from time, the Caen man ultimately beat him late on.

The Germany international preferred to focus on departing teammate Maxwell, though, rather than his penalty save.

"It was a pretty emotional evening tonight, as it was Maxwell's last match at the Parc des Princes," Trapp said. "He is a very special player, a great person. We were that focused on the result -- we are just enjoying the moment with Max."

Maxwell could make one final appearance in PSG colours in next week's Coupe de France final against Angers SCO at Stade de France.
