Daniele De Rossi should leave Roma in summer but not for MLS - Andrea Pirlo

Daniele De Rossi is out of contract with Roma at the end of the season.

New York City FC's Andrea Pirlo says that a change of scenery would do Daniele De Rossi good, although he adds it is too soon for the Roma midfielder to move to Major League Soccer.

Pirlo joined NYCFC in 2015 and there has been talk of De Rossi, whose contract with Roma is up for renewal this summer, joining him in the United States.

However, the 37-year-old Pirlo says former Italy teammate De Rossi -- four years his junior -- still has much to offer in Europe before considering a move across the Atlantic, though a switch away from Roma would be wise given he has spent his whole career at the club.

"I would advise him to change scenery," Pirlo told Sportitalia. "He's young and he can still play in one of Europe's leagues, while at the same time it is still early for him to come to America. He can still play at the highest levels."

Like De Rossi, Francesco Totti is out of contract at Roma this summer and Pirlo does not see why the 40-year-old cannot play on for another season.

However, Pirlo does not expect to still be playing when he reaches Totti's age, revealing that retirement is now on the horizon.

"It depends a lot on him and if he still has the right enthusiasm to carry on playing," Pirlo said of Totti. "Sooner or later even I will have to think about retiring too because you can't play forever. When you no longer feel part of the game, then you have to think about doing something else.

"I'm focusing on trying to end [my career] well and as soon as I move back to Italy, I will study for my coaching badge because you never know."
