Valencia sign Fabian Orellana on loan from Celta Vigo

Chile international Fabian Orellana has moved to Valencia.

Valencia have signed Chile international Fabian Orellana on loan from Celta Vigo for the remainder of the season, although the deal could become permanent this summer.

A club statement read: "Fabian Orellana passed a medical and has signed a new contract. According to the agreement reached with Celta Vigo, the player arrives on loan until the end of the season with a buy-option, which if done, would extend his link to the club until June 30, 2019."

The 31-year-old right-winger said he was thrilled to have joined Valencia and told the club's website: "I'm overjoyed to have joined this great club. I hope to help as much as possible and repay the club for their faith.

"I've seen Valencia play and I think the team has improved and we have to continue."

Celta were keen to offload Orellana after the South American fell into a dispute with club coach Eduardo Berizzo earlier this month.

Orellana, in his fifth campaign with Celta, was under contract with the Vigo-based club until June 2019. The Santiago-born player made 113 appearances for Celta since joining the Galician side from Granada in 2013.

A statement from Celta said: "Celta wishes to express its gratitude to Orellana for his dedication and effort throughout these years at the club and wishes him success in this new stage of his career."

Injuries limited Orellana to just nine appearances for Celta this season, his last a 3-0 home defeat to Sevilla on Dec.11 in La Liga.
